Paul spent the next two hours in and out of sleep. He scrubbed both hands over his face, then watched Ryan sleep. The relationship was so fragile, so new, but the things they’d done…holy shit. Paul should’ve been scared. Grown men spanking other grown men. Some people might not think a simple spanking was bad, but…damn. Or the clips, the butt plug and the other things… Jesus.

His body ached all over, but nothing he’d trade. Each sting reminded him of what he had shared with Ryan and brought to mind moments of their play. He touched his tender nipples and whimpered. The pain felt too damn good.

The dog padded next to the bed and sat next to Paul. She bumped his hand with her head. Even in the moonlight, he could see the yellow glow in her eyes.

“It’s okay,” he whispered. If things were okay, why didn’t he feel so okay about it? He groaned. The whole idea of seeing Ryan was to talk things through, not fall into bed after one meeting. They were supposed to have sex without feelings—except he’d added the feelings and Ryan had added the pinch of chains and spankings. Part of Paul felt ashamed for what they’d done. Part of him was even more intrigued and ready to play a second round. Ryan pushed the limits, but he talked during the sexual activities. He didn’t shout or belittle Paul. No, the whole experience came off quite loving and safe, despite the handcuffs and clips.

His brain buzzed. Too many thoughts and no way to shut them off. If he didn’t crash soon, he’d never make it through the next day. Screw it. He needed to walk off the energy coursing through his veins and sort his thoughts out.

Paul inched out of bed and gathered his clothes. He patted his thigh to signal to the dog to follow then headed into the hallway to dress. The less noise he made, the better Ryan would continue to sleep. Once he had dressed and rounded up the items for the dog, Paul led Zeppelin out to his car. Embarrassment and regret crashed through him. Duke had fucked Ryan over after a scene and what was he doing? Walking away, just like the ex. Except he wasn’t going away for good. No, he needed time to process.

He scribbled a note then ran back into the house. Not the best way to ask for a temporary break, but then he’d never been so head over heels before.

Zeppelin whimpered and wiggled on the passenger seat.

“We’ll be back.” He put the car in gear. “I promise. I’ll make things up to him and we’ll work it out. Once I digest what happened. I just need time to think.”

Now if Ryan would understand…he’d be golden.
